EGYPT HORSE RIDING TOUR – 4 NIGHTS 5 DAYS

The Egypt 4-Night 5-Day Horse Riding Tour is a cultural and equestrian adventure program designed for participants who want to ride Arabian horses with views of the Giza Pyramids, the Sakkara Desert, the Fayum Oasis, and the village roads along the Nile in Luxor.

The tour program is not limited to horseback riding. The Giza Pyramids, the Great Sphinx, Saqqara, Fayum, the Nile River, the West Bank of Luxor, and other important historical sites in the region are also included in the itinerary.

Horseback riding tours are conducted at licensed or locally permitted horse farms, accompanied by experienced tour leaders and local riders familiar with the route. The route will be determined based on weather conditions, safety procedures, rules for visiting archaeological sites, the riding skill level of the participants, and the health of the horses.

During this ride, participants' balance, horse control, stopping, directional changes, and group movement skills are observed. The tour leader may select the horses to be used in subsequent days based on this evaluation.

Dinner and overnight stay in Cairo.

Day 2 – Horseback Riding Tour with Views of the Giza Pyramids and Sakkara

After breakfast, we will be transferred to our partner horse farm near Giza.

Horses are selected for participants based on their height, weight, experience, and riding level. Helmets are fitted, stirrup heights are adjusted, and a short warm-up ride is performed.

Around Giza and Sakkara, there are businesses offering horseback riding tours ranging from an hour to a full day. However, routes within the archaeological sites, entrance gates, and permitted riding areas may vary according to current local regulations. Therefore, the program will be conducted along desert trails overlooking the pyramids and routes available through authorized businesses.

Upon arrival at the horse farm, participants are reunited with their horses. Unlike the rides in Giza, this day involves riding in open terrain for a longer period, so participants' health and fatigue levels are checked.

Beginner-level participants may be placed in a separate group or progress along a shorter course at a walking and light trotting pace.

Horses to be Used in the Egypt Horse Tour

Horse riding tours in Egypt mostly use Arabian horses and Arabian hybrids. Horse selection is not based solely on appearance.

Horses are matched with participants based on the following information:

  • The rider's height

  • Rider's weight

  • horseback riding experience

  • Balance and horse control

  • Preferred driving speed

  • Length of the track

  • The horse's character

  • The horse's condition

  • The horse's health condition that day

Participants may not change horses without the tour leader's knowledge.

Egyptian Horse Riding Level

This program is more suitable for participants who have ridden a horse a few times before or who have basic horse control skills.

It is recommended that participants possess the following basic skills:

  • Being able to ride a horse without or with minimal assistance.

  • To be able to stop the horse

  • Ability to steer to the right and left.

  • Maintaining balance at a walking pace

  • Ability to trot for a short period of time

  • To be able to follow the tour leader's instructions.

  • To be able to progress in a group setting.

Instead of the long Fayum course, a short, specialized beginner-level program should be prepared for completely inexperienced participants.

Egyptian Horse Riding Tour Health Requirements

Participants are deemed to have accepted that they are physically and mentally fit for horseback riding in open terrain.

Consulting a doctor or deciding not to participate in the tour is recommended in the following situations:

  • Serious cardiovascular diseases

  • Uncontrolled blood pressure

  • Severe respiratory problems

  • Advanced back, neck, or joint problems

  • Epilepsy

  • Conditions that can cause loss of balance

  • Recent surgery

  • Pregnancy

  • Physical injuries that prevent horseback riding

Participants should inform the organizer of any medications they are taking and other important health information prior to booking.

Egyptian Horse Riding Safety Rules

  • Wearing a riding helmet is mandatory.

  • Participants must proceed in the order set by the tour leader.

  • Leaving the group without permission from the tour leader is prohibited.

  • It is forbidden to attempt to overtake the horse in front without checking for oncoming traffic.

  • Unauthorized galloping is not allowed within the group.

  • A safe distance should be maintained between horses.

  • One should not walk too close behind horses.

  • Uncontrolled filming with a phone while on horseback should be avoided.

  • Drone use is only permitted within the framework of local permits and regional regulations.

  • Unauthorized entry is prohibited to archaeological sites, protected areas, and restricted trails.

  • The use of alcohol or any substance that affects consciousness while on horseback is strictly prohibited.

  • The tour leader may terminate the ride of any participant exhibiting dangerous behavior.

Speed and Riding Procedures in Egyptian Horse Riding

The basic pace of the tour is walking and controlled trotting.

Gallop only;

  • When the ground is suitable,

  • When visibility is sufficient,

  • When the horses are in good condition,

  • When the group leader gives permission,

  • This can be done when the riders have sufficient experience.

If beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders are in the same group, the entire group moves at the lowest safe pace. Participants are divided into different groups if necessary.

Information about Desert Horse Riding

Desert trails differ from classic arena riding. Sand, rocky terrain, temperature, wind, long distances, and limited shade can make riding challenging.

The participants;

  • Drinking enough water,

  • Using sunscreen,

  • Protecting the neck and face from the sun.

  • Compliance with the guide's decisions regarding breaks,

  • Horses' need for rest and water must be respected.

On extremely hot days, driving should be done in the early morning or closer to sunset.

Egyptian Horse Riding Tour Clothing and Equipment

Participants are advised to bring the following equipment:

  • Riding pants or seamless stretch pants

  • Closed and heeled riding shoes

  • Gaiters or riding boots

  • Riding gloves

  • Long-sleeved, breathable top

  • sunscreen

  • Sunglasses

  • Neck warmer or thin shawl

  • Personal water bottle

  • Small waist bag

  • A light jacket for the desert cold in the evening.

  • Personal medications

Wide-legged trousers, slippers, sandals, high heels, and loose accessories that could get caught on the horse should not be worn.

Egyptian Horse Riding Tour Weather Conditions

In Egypt, summer temperatures can be challenging for horseback riding tours. Therefore, rides are usually scheduled for early morning or close to sunset.

Route changes, shortened rides, or cancellations may occur due to sandstorms, extreme temperatures, strong winds, rain, reduced visibility, or local safety warnings.

The health of the horses and the safety of the participants are more important than the completion of the program.

Child Participants

Long-distance horseback safari programs are not suitable for young children.

Child participants;

  • Having the physical ability to ride a horse alone,

  • Being able to understand the tour leader's instructions,

  • Its ability to maintain its balance in open terrain,

  • Parental permission is required for participation.

Age limits are determined according to the horse farm's rules. Two people cannot ride on the same horse. Children and adults cannot ride on the same horse together.

Horse Welfare and Protection

The health, care, and rest conditions of the horses used in the tour are important.

The following practices should be noted:

  • The working hours of horses should be limited.

  • Water and rest breaks should be taken during long drives.

  • Horses that are injured, excessively weak, or unsuitable should not be used.

  • The saddle and bridle must fit the horse's body properly.

  • Long driving distances should be avoided during extremely hot hours.

  • The horses' carrying capacity should not be exceeded.

  • Participants should not treat the horses roughly or without control.

The organizer may stop the ride if they deem it necessary for the safety of the horse or rider.
