What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a martial art and sport originating in Korea, practiced with bare hands and feet. In Taekwondo, belts are worn over the uniform to indicate skill and experience. These belts come in white, yellow, green, blue, red, and black. An intermediate belt is also included between each belt for easier grading. Belt exams are held every four months, and those who pass advance to the next belt level. The black belt is the highest level.
How to do Taekwondo?
Taekwondo matches consist of three 2-minute rounds. A 1-minute break is given between rounds. During this break, athletes rest, quench their thirst, and receive instructions and tactics from their coaches. Matches begin and end with the athletes greeting each other and the referees.
A player who engages in foul play, headbutts, strikes a fallen player, or disobeys instructions will receive negative points. If a player receives 3 negative points, they will forfeit the match. Kicking above the waist and to the head is permitted.
