What is Pilates? What are the benefits of Pilates?

It adds flexibility to your body, stretches and works your muscles, increases endurance, relieves stress, and relaxes your mind. With this wonderful exercise, you can improve your quality of life and comfort. Discover the benefits of Pilates in our article.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a highly serious physical fitness program with countless benefits. Its most fundamental benefit is that it improves our quality of life and comfort. Having been a part of our lives for over a century, Pilates can be summarized as "a combination of movement, breathing, and balance."
It includes exercises that work the entire body. These can be done on a mat, using a Pilates ball, or incorporating different types of exercises that increase resistance with Pilates equipment. It's a good sport for balance, flexibility, muscle building, and overall body health.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Pilates, with its basic movements, exercises using resistance bands and balls, as well as techniques using equipment, works our muscles while protecting our joints and bones. Pilates can be practiced by anyone from 10 to 80 years old, unless they have a significant health problem. For best results, it is recommended to do it at least twice a week, and preferably three or four times a week.
Although not primarily a weight-loss method, Pilates helps to slim the body, making it possible to lose 1-2 dress sizes while doing it.
10 benefits of Pilates
1. It strengthens and lengthens muscles.
2. It works all the muscles in the body, and activates some muscles that are not normally very active.
3. It tightens the body, increases flexibility, and shapes it, making it look more aesthetically pleasing.
4. It is beneficial for skeletal and spinal disorders and postural imbalances, straightening the spine.
5. It reduces the risk of injury and shortens the recovery phase after injuries.
6. It speeds up blood circulation, helps you breathe better, and supports the delivery of more oxygen to your tissues.
7. It provides unity of body, mind, and spirit.
8. It improves balance and coordination skills.
9. It boosts self-confidence and vitality.
10. It increases positive energy and reduces stress.
10 things to keep in mind while doing Pilates
1. If you have a health problem, you should see a doctor before starting Pilates classes.
2. If you've never done Pilates before, it would definitely be more beneficial to join a fitness program beforehand.
3. You should definitely start Pilates under the supervision of an instructor. After receiving basic training, you can also do it at home.
4. You should choose a gym that specializes in Pilates training. A body analysis should be done, and the condition of your muscles should be determined beforehand. You should be meticulous in choosing your instructor and ask about their certifications.
5. Correct breathing is the foundation of Pilates. It's essential for performing movements smoothly, activating muscles, relaxing the body, increasing endurance, and improving blood circulation. In fact, Pilates movements are guided by breathing technique.
6. You may experience difficulty or pain with some basic movements; if this happens, you should pause or stop.
7. You should perform all movements by pulling your stomach in. Pulling your stomach in makes Pilates movements easier and helps you maintain balance.
8. In Pilates, some movements may seem unnecessary, but even these will activate muscles that are never used. Details and the fluidity of movements are important in Pilates. Therefore, you should follow all movements carefully.
9. To prevent muscle loss, make sure you consume plenty of protein and carbohydrates and drink enough fluids on days you do Pilates. Do not do Pilates on an empty or full stomach; stop eating 1 to 1.5 hours before the session begins.
10. To ensure unrestricted movement and proper muscle tracking, you should do Pilates wearing sports leggings and socks (or barefoot).
