The Cappadocia 2-Hour Horse Riding Tour is a horse safari tour in the Sword Valley of Cappadocia, suitable for both amateurs and professionals. On this tour, you'll travel through the beautiful valleys of Cappadocia on horseback and experience the joy of horseback riding.
Sword Valley, located within the borders of Göreme in Nevşehir, is one of the most beautiful and centrally located valleys of Cappadocia. It is called Sword Valley because of its rock formations resembling swords. Starting from the south of the Göreme Open Air Museum, the valley extends to the town of Çavuşin. Within the valley lies the Kızlar Monastery, dating back to the 9th century.
Information about Cappadocia: Cappadocia is a region formed 60 million years ago by the erosion of soft layers created by the lava and ash ejected from Mount Erciyes, Mount Hasan, and Mount Göllüdağ over millions of years by rain and wind. The general name for this vast region, encompassing Nevşehir, Niğde, and Aksaray, is Cappadocia. Our horseback riding tours take place in the Kılıçlar Valley, located in the Göreme town, which is the most central location within the Cappadocia area.
Information about the Valley of Swords: After passing Gorkündere, Zemi Valley, and the Open-Air Museum, the second part of Göreme, the Kılıçlar Valley, begins. It is 15 minutes from Göreme center and 7 km from Ortahisar. Starting from the point where the Open-Air Museum is located, the Kılıçlar Valley continues to Çavuşin town. We explore a 4 km section of this route on horseback. Starting from the south of the Göreme Open-Air Museum, we traverse the valley from end to end and ascend to the Göreme viewpoint on horseback.
The Valley of the Swords, unlike the crowded group of churches in the Göreme Open Air Museum, is home to a distinct group of two churches: the Church of the Swords, which shares the same name as the valley, and the Church of the Virgin Mary.
Güllüdere Valley is a canyon located east of Kılıçlar Valley. Kızılçukur Valley lies at the top of the valley. A small stream flows through Güllüdere Canyon, which is covered in lush green trees. Tunnels and caves, once traversed by horses, can be found along the valley. Güllüdere Valley is also a historical settlement area. Within the valley are settlements and churches dating back to the 6th century. The most important churches in the valley are the Columned Church and the Crusader Church.
*Due to time constraints on our Cappadocia horseback riding tours, we only go as far as the entrance area of Güllü Valley 1. To explore the entire Güllü Valley on horseback, you can choose a private tour option or join the 3-hour tour.
The horses we use for our Cappadocia horse tours are of Arabian and Turkish origin. These horses have been specially trained for horse tours. They are experienced in dealing with ATV and car noises, as well as hot air balloon sounds. They are also quite experienced in navigating the scenic routes in Cappadocia's conditions.
Horse Riding in the Valleys of Cappadocia: We do not allow horses to gallop on our horseback riding tours. This is because the Cappadocia tour routes are very narrow. The roads are always winding and constantly ups and downs. There is no sufficient distance for the horse to stop while galloping. And there is always the risk of motor vehicles, people, and other horses suddenly appearing in front of the horse. Therefore, the valleys of Cappadocia are not suitable for galloping. Experienced riders may gallop in certain parts of the valleys as a private tour.
